The immune system and the body’s normal bacteria usually keep Candida in balance. When this balance is interrupted, it can result in an overgrowth of the Candida fungus, causing thrush, a yeast infection of the mouth or throat. Thrush infection is not the same as a vaginal yeast infection (also called moniliasis).
Is oral thrush sexually transmitted?
That is the same organism that is responsible for most cases of oral thrush. Therefore, it is quite natural to wonder whether or not yeast can be transmitted from the mouth to the vagina, or vice versa, during oral sex. There have been numerous studies of sexual transmission of yeast infections.
How do you get oral cancer?
Factors that can increase your risk of mouth cancer include:
Tobacco use of any kind, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco and snuff, among others.
Heavy alcohol use.
Excessive sun exposure to your lips.
A sexually transmitted virus called human papillomavirus (HPV)
A weakened immune system.
Is thrush in the mouth contagious?
Oral thrush, a fungal infection, is not considered contagious. The causative fungus, Candida albicans, is often already a natural inhabitant of the mouth and throat. When the oral environment changes (usually due to an immature or depressed immune system), the fungus can multiply and cause symptoms.
