Can I use my laptop as a monitor for a desktop?

Answer: The best way to connect your laptop to your desktop is to use the computers’ built-in networking capabilities. This can be done by connecting the computers via an Ethernet or wireless network connection. If you are connecting two computers directly, you need to use an Ethernet crossover cable.

HDMI Port: If your PC has a new high-end graphics card then chances are you have an HDMI port on the back. This is the easiest to use because all you need to do is connect a standard HDMI cable to run the computer to the TV.

A laptop’s screen lacks the ports that a typical monitor uses to receive input from a desktop computer because they were never meant to function as a stand-alone device. As a consequence of this fact, it is not possible to plug a desktop computer into a laptop and use its screen as the display.

Method 4 Sharing Internet on Windows

Connect your desktop to a laptop with an Ethernet cable.

Open Start.

Type in control panel .

Click Control Panel.

Click Change adapter settings.

Select both connection icons.

Select the name (SSID) of your WiFi network from the list of available connections and then click the Connect button.

Method 2 Windows 7 and Vista

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del on the keyboard. This brings up the lock screen.

Click the arrow next to the power button. It’s the red button at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Click Restart. The computer will now reboot.

Perform a hardware reboot.

Click on Enable.

If it is, turn it off to enable the wireless network card. The Wi-Fi adapter can also be enabled in the Control Panel, click on the Network and Sharing Center option, then click on the Change adapter settings link in the left navigation pane. Right-click on the Wi-Fi adapter and select Enable.

Here’s how to switch it back on. Go to the Start Menu and select Settings. Scroll down and click on Change adapter options. Right click on the Wi-Fi adapter and click Enable.
