Foley Launches Third TV Ad; Focuses on Trunzo's Failure of Leadership Vs. Foley's Record of Results and Change
The Foley for Senate campaign launched its third TV ad of the campaign contrasting Caesar Trunzo’s record of corruption and failed fiscal policies versus Foley’s record of results and change. The hard hitting ad reminds voters of Senator Trunzo’s close relationship and support for former Islip Town Supervisor Pete McGowan who was convicted of three felonies and a misdemeanor and served time in jail.
The contrast between 36 year incumbent Trunzo and Foley cannot be clearer. As Islip Republican Chair, Caesar Trunzo stood up for disgraced former Islip Supervisor Pete McGowan who served jail time for three felonies and one misdemeanor. Trunzo voted for $850 million in tax breaks for Wall Street banks, voted to increase taxes and fees 611 times, costing taxpayers $33.4 billion, and voted for the highest tax increase in New York State history – a $2.5 billion increase. Trunzo opposed a one year moratorium on foreclosures in New York and does not support circuit breaker legislation that would provide immediate property tax relief for seniors and middle class families.
Worst of all, as our country faces the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, Senator Trunzo has not spoken up for the working families of Islip and Brookhaven. He’s failed to utter a single word on the Senate floor since June 14, 2006.
In contrast, Brian X. Foley took over a town government in financial crisis, broken by years of corruption and dysfunction. In just two years as the Brookhaven Town Supervisor, he cut a $15 million deficit, got the town its highest bond rating ever, and saved taxpayers $10 million through innovative economic policies. Because of his hard work, Brookhaven now has the lowest town tax rate in Suffolk County.
In addition, Brookhaven is the only town in Long Island not increasing taxes in 2009.
The script for the ad follows below:
“For years it was known as ‘Crookhaven’ where corruption was always welcome. Until Brian Foley became Town Supervisor and gave it back its good name. Ending corrupt no-bid contracts and pulling Brookhaven out of a 15 million dollar hole. Giving us the lowest taxes in Suffolk. Caesar Trunzo supported the most corrupt administration in Islip history and lavished Wall Street with tax breaks while sending your taxes through the roof. Who do you want as State Senator, someone who protects the powerful or someone who protects the people?”
“Trunzo has not spoken up for his constituents in over two years, he is misleading the public with a negative campaign, and refuses to support legislation that would help middle class families,” said Ibrahim Khan, Communications Director for Foley for Senate. “We just can’t afford two more years of Caesar Trunzo. It’s time for change.”
With 36 year incumbent Caesar Trunzo in a statistical dead heat with Brian X. Foley and the campaign entering its final 5 weeks, Trunzo has resorted to a negative and misleading campaign to hide his record of failed leadership.
