A lifelong resident of Brookhaven Town, Brian has been working hard for the people of Brookhaven every day for the past 15 years, first on the Suffolk County Legislature and then as Brookhaven Town Supervisor. From his election to represent the Seventh Legislative District (Blue Point) in 1993, to his historic 2005 victory for Supervisor of Brookhaven, Foley has a proven record of reform and results.
As a County Legislator, he successfully sponsored legislation to increase access to higher education, creating a new scholarship program while strongly opposing tuition hikes. Foley passed legislation to make hospitals safer and established new protections against secondhand smoke in the workplace; he secured funding for our downtowns; and he preserved thousands of acres of land across Suffolk County.
Once elected Brookhaven Town Supervisor, Foley saved taxpayers money by ending no-bid insurance contracts for political bosses and he opened up access to Town government through the creation of the 451-TOWN information system. Foley also enacted key fiscal reforms that created the lowest town tax rate in Suffolk County while achieving the highest bond rating in Brookhaven’s history.
As your State Senator, Brian will fight for lower property taxes, ensure that Suffolk County schools receive their fair share from the state, make healthcare available and affordable for everyone, and modernize state aid formulas for Towns to recognize the changing nature of municipal government.
Tirelessly active in our community, Brian Foley has served on the Brookhaven Roe YMCA Board of Directors, Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Advisory Board, Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, Suffolk County Community Mediation Center, Sunrise District Boy Scouts of America, and the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In 2004, the Bayport Blue Point Chamber of Commerce presented Brian with their Dedicated Public Service Award. He has been recognized as Person of the year by the Medford Youth Athletic Association Award in 2000 and the Farmingville Historical Society in 1999.
Brian Foley resides in his native Blue Point with his wife and their two children. A graduate of St. Anthony's High School, Brian continued his education at St. Michael's College in Winooski Park, Vermont where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies.
